UCI Student Health & Health Promotion

UCI’s Student Health Center offers online services to students. It will continue to look for ways to improve its online services and make them more accessible to students. The center’s mission is to increase health care access for UCI students. Its goal is to provide quality care to UCI students in a timely manner.

Students

If you have concerns about your physical or mental health, UCI Student Wellness & Health Promotion can help. Located on the third floor of the Student Center, they’re open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students can also use their online resources to access a variety of health resources.

The Student Health Center’s patient portal allows students to add information about their health and medications. Information entered into the portal appears in bold red. Medical providers can correct, edit, or delete any information. The UCI Student Health Center’s physician will also be able to view any health information uploaded by students.

Regardless of your age, UCI student health services can help you protect your health. To avoid disease and stay healthy, you should get regular vaccinations and immunizations. There are four specific vaccines students are required to have. Also, a Tuberculosis screening is required.

If you’re an UC Irvine student, you can receive services at the Student Health Center without any cost to you. You don’t have to pay for these services on the spot, because all charges are billed to your campus billing account maintained by UCI Financial Services. You can also view your account balance online using Zot Account Online.

Faculty

The faculty of student health at UC Irvine is committed to the wellbeing of all students. Whether students are experiencing mental health concerns, or struggling with academics, the faculty offers a variety of services that will help them achieve both academic and mind-body success. Fortunately, many mental health issues are treatable with ongoing treatment. The department also seeks to create a stigma-free campus environment by providing comprehensive care for students.

In addition to offering student health and wellness services, the faculty helps students get immunizations and complete TB testing. New students must have proof that they have had all four recommended vaccines, and have completed a Tuberculosis screening before entering classes. If a student has not met the COVID-19 vaccination deadline, they will be subject to academic holds, which prevent them from enrolling in classes during Winter Quarter 2023.

Staff

If you are concerned about your health, you may want to contact the Student Health Center’s (SHC) staff. The Center’s front office staff is a critical link between patients and the health care team. They are the first point of contact for patients and are responsible for ensuring that the clinic runs smoothly and efficiently. Staff members are required to be personable, professional and detail oriented.

Program curriculum

The Program curriculum for student health at UCI focuses on providing an integrated approach to public health, from environmental and behavioral health to chronic and infectious diseases. Students explore epidemiology, genetics, health informatics, and public health policy, while also being encouraged to conduct research in critical areas. The program’s faculty are pioneers in the fields of environmental health, public health, occupational health, and clinical and translational sciences.

Students in the student health program participate in a variety of electives, including a literary elective that develops students’ visual skills for clinical diagnosis and emotional sensitivity for compassionate care. The course surveys significant themes in the history of health care and medicine, and students are required to lead one of these sessions. Each student is asked to prepare for the session by reading resources and preparing for a discussion.
