Nelson Torres, a tech geek by nature, found his true passion in life when he created a website that allows people to post their resumes and connect with potential employers. Since starting the site, Nelson has helped countless people find new jobs and notch career advancements.
Born and raised in New York City, Nelson has always been interested in technology. When he was younger, he would spend hours tinkering with computers and learning about different programs. After high school, Nelson enrolled into NYU where he studied computer science. While at NYU, Nelson met his future business partner and co-founder of Resume Genius, Brian Kelly.
Brian’s brother is the founder of The New York Times Company, so Nelson and Brian knew they could make something great together. After graduating from NYU in 2012 with a degree in computer science, the two set out to create Resume Genius.
Since its inception in 2012, Resume Genius has helped millions of people worldwide search for jobs and build careers. In addition to creating the world’s largest resume database, Resume Genius offers free resources such as job postings and resume tips.

Nelson Torres, a 12-year-old from Huntington Beach, California, was recently crowned the winner of the Google Science Fair for his project “A Robot That Can Sort Images by Color.” Nelson’s project focused on developing a robot that could sort digital images by color.
Nelson’s fascination with technology began at an early age. He developed a passion for programming and coding when he was just 8 years old. Nelson has since won several awards for his tech projects, including first place in the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) for his RoboCup project titled “An Autonomous Robotic Football Team.”
For his Google Science Fair project, Nelson created a robot that can sort digital images by color. The goal of the project was to develop a method for automatically classifying digital images into one of six colors based on their content. The robot uses eight cameras to capture images of objects and then uses machine learning algorithms to determine which color corresponds to each object.
The result of Nelson’s project is an efficient and accurate way to classify digital images into one of six colors based on their content. This tool could be incredibly useful in fields such as marketing and product development.
